It seemed too good to be true. Without a cargo, Ockham couldn't afford the berthing fees for his small merchantship, Razor. And then Murgatroid contacted him about a cargo to ship. They agreed to meet... It WAS too good to be true. Ockham should have known better. Now he needs to find Murgatroid - or the Barrold police will put him in jail and impound Razor. Without any clues to Murgatroid's real identity, Ockham is stuck. He could try searching the semi-legal bars, nightclubs and gambling joints of Barrold's Strip... but he suspects that will only get him deeper in trouble. Once again, Ockham should have known better... TO CATCH A THIEF is a fast-paced and exciting space opera novel that will appeal to fans of Firefly, Traveller, David Weber, Star Wars, Elizabeth Moon and the Liaden Universe books.
To Catch A Thief Ockham Razor Book 1 eBook Keith Sheffield
100 word review:The biggest problem with To Catch a Thief is that you won't really be able to call it a gripping, swashbuckling yarn. They'll insist on calling it a space opera, as it takes place in, ahem, space, and it insists on having aliens, orbits, and laser blasters.
It also, however, has gangsters, betrayals, a wealthy-and-mysterious ingenue, a great collection of misfits as crew.
It should be called a gripping yarn. That's what it is.
It won't win a Booker. But that's OK. That's not what it's for.
It is to be a gripping piece of entertainment for you. It's a fast read, with character, plot, and drive. It's well-crafted fiction that makes you want to read it and enjoy it. You could almost replace the ex-military officer on a junk freighter (which could probably turn piratey right quick) with a pirate ship, the sound of the sea, and swinging and cutlassing.
Get it. It's worth £4. Or $4, for those of you thinking in dollars.
